Little Tree
Little Tree There once was a tree Who lived near a hill. A tree so ambitious He struggled to stay still. The tree had a goal, And this was his mission: To see over the hill, That was his vision. But this tree was clever And knew not to rush. He wanted to be big And even more plush. So the tree dug his roots Deep in the ground. While others grew up, The tree made not a sound. The others grew tall, The others grew big, While clever little tree Let his roots dig and dig. Then finally one day, The tree felt he was ready To rise up real high, But still remain steady. All looked and watched As the tree started to rise. He grew and he grew, And all were surprised. He passed the trees tallest, And reached near the crest. All looked up to him, But the tree still would not rest. Then one sad day, The tree would no longer rise. His limbs were too heavy, He would have to compromise. There was only one way That the tree could still grow: To let a branch drop — A dear friend and fellow. With tears in his eyes, The tree let the branch fall. It needed to be done, For the tree to grow tall. By the end of the day, The tree grew and flourished With more energy than before And even more purpose. The tree rose and he rose, And he could not be stopped. Then finally one day, He reached the tip top. The tree not only was tallest, But over the hill he could see; But the tree kept looking down At all the other small trees. The tree thought he’d be happy; He thought he’d be content. But his heart felt unrest, And he began to lament. One day the tree knew Why he felt so down and so blue. A voice in his head whispered, “There’s no one to celebrate but you.” So the next day he peered down To the tree closest in height. It just happened to be The tree to his right. He thought of a plan To feel less alone. He got right to work To help others become grown. He dug his roots deep And entwined with another. Then this tree became taller, And the two were like brothers. The tree that he helped Did the same for another, And the cycle repeated Until the landscape was covered. The tree from the start Was happy as could be, Surrounded by friends And towering trees.

I love that poem! It was such a beautifully worded and meaningful piece! A poem of true brotherhood!
